Students in Lackawanna County provide a large contribution to the success of the local economy. MetroAction created the Destination Downtown program in 2006 to introduce students from the eight area colleges and universities to the many businesses and opportunities located in downtown Scranton.

The goal of the program has always been for MetroAction to serve as a leader in promoting Scranton as a downtown destination for area students. The program is an excellent opportunity for businesses and organizations to foster relationships and welcome the students to downtown Scranton.

MetroAction works directly with student leaders and school representatives to continuously improve and develop the Destination Downtown Program. These students are the future leaders of our community. With Scranton’s rich history, lively businesses and cultural abundance, the mission of this program is more important than ever.

In 2008, MetroAction collaborated with Times Shamrock Communications, Scranton Tomorrow, and the Scranton Plan to introduce the new Campus Source booklet for local students to use as a "welcome guide" for getting to know downtown Scranton.

Look for a copy of the Campus Source around the community and visit our blog, InterAction, for commentary on the Destination Downtown initiative.
