Actor/Comedian Chris Barnes to Emcee Awards Gala

MetroAction and The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce are proud to announce that actor/writer/comedian Chris Barnes, a Scranton area native, will emcee the inaugural Awards Gala celebration on November 11 at the Mellow Theater, Lackawanna College.

Mr. Barnes’ many stage, television and film credits include a stint at the famed “Second City” comedy troupe in Chicago, where many “Saturday Night Live” stars got their start. He has also been a guest star on hit shows such as “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and he played the character of Marv in the sitcom, “Life with Bonnie,” starring fellow “Second City” graduate Bonnie Hunt. Mr. Barnes is currently guest starring on the daytime soap opera, “One Life to Live,” and has recently appeared in films such as “Good Day for It” and “Return to Me.”

In addition to acting, Mr. Barnes runs an Improv school called Comedy Dojo in California. He also has an Improv school in the Poconos called Chris Barnes Comedy Dojo.

“The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and MetroAction are thrilled that Chris Barnes, a great talent with local ties, has offered to emcee this premier event,” said Philip P. Condron, acting president of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce. “We would like to thank him for volunteering his time.”

The Chamber Awards Gala, presented by Penn Security Bank and Trust, is a Hollywood-style event honoring recipients of the SAGE Awards – Scranton Awards for Growth and Excellence. The SAGE Awards celebrate the outstanding efforts of the local business community and their talent, creativity, innovation in a challenging business environment. The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and MetroAction are proud to honor members who make contributions to the business community as they contribute to the growth of our tremendous quality of life. In total, 21 SAGE Awards will be presented.

All SAGE Award finalists (with the exception of Pride and Progress finalists) will be entered into the People’s Choice Award category, sponsored by People’s National Bank.
